Triumphantly welcomed Thursday morning in Cointrin, just a few hours after completing the Europeans in Rome with the 4x100m, Timothé Mumenthaler was the guest at 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening. The new European 200m champion was able to discuss his future plans.

His coach, Kevin Widmer, says he is amazed by what his colt has achieved on the Italian track. “VSThese were his first elite Europeans and making a final is exceptional, winning a medal even more so, but then winning the title is truly magnificent! Timothé still has 10 years of career ahead of him. We’re only just starting…

Words which, like those of his parents, amaze the European 200m champion, guest of 7:30 p.m., during which he was able to present his medal. “It’s really substantial and I think it’s the most beautiful one I own.“, he said.

“Totally unexpected”

Humble and composed, the Genevan admits that he did not expect to win the continental crown. “I knew I had what it took to perform well thanks to the work we had done with my coachhe continues, but winning gold was totally unexpected.”

Bluffing, Timothé Mumethaler (21 years old) can savor what he has just achieved all the more since he has experienced quite a few injuries in the past. But he never became discouraged. “Yes, I had complicated moments, but I was lucky to be very well surrounded, by caring people, who knew how to put me back on the right path during moments of doubt.appreciates the one who is not afraid of sacrifices. It’s elite sport that wants that and if you want to perform, you have to know how to make it into a career. I accept them and I manage to live and juggle with them.”

Target the 10” mark

After having driven the Romans crazy, the Bernesian at heart has other objectives. “I want to become the first Swiss to go under 10 seconds over 100mhe exclaims. For any self-respecting sprinter, this bar should be a career goal.”

In the meantime, Timothé Mumenthaler will have to put his work clothes back on at EPFL, far from the Italian stars. “I have exams to take, a lot of mental stress and fatiguehe smiles. I hope this all goes well.”

If he puts the same effort into it as on the U-turn…
