Polytechnique Montréal – Polytechnique Montréal becomes sole owner of the J.-Armand-Bombardier pavilion

Polytechnique Montréal acquired half of the J.-Armand-Bombardier pavilion which had belonged to the University of Montreal since its inauguration in 2004, thus becoming the sole owner of the building. This transaction constitutes an important step in the campus development plan of our engineering university.

Located to the west of the main pavilion of Polytechnique Montréal, the pavilion was erected from 2002 to 2004 on behalf of Polytechnique and the University of Montreal. Its laboratories and offices served the teaching and research activities of both institutions in various fields, including biotechnology, nanoscience, nanotechnology and advanced materials.

This acquisition is part of a long-term vision for the development of the Polytechnique Montréal campus. The engineering university thus takes a significant new step towards completion of a first major project which includes in particular the expansion and redevelopment of the J.-Armand-Bombardier pavilion, the rehabilitation of part of the main pavilion as well as the creation of an underground link connecting the two buildings and including in particular a hydraulic laboratory and community spaces . An area of 9,000 square meters will be added for the purposes of teaching and research activities as part of the project.

“This acquisition of part of the J.-Armand-Bombardier pavilion perfectly meets the objectives of Polytechnique Montréal’s new strategic plan, which aims in particular to transform its infrastructure to create a stimulating, modern and inclusive environment,” declares Maud. Cohen, general director of Polytechnique Montréal. It will establish leading learning and research environments as well as common spaces that will promote exchanges and interdisciplinary collaboration. »

“The transaction now being finalized, the first major project will be able to progress within government authorities, the launch of the work being conditional on obtaining authorization from the Council of Ministers of the Government of Quebec,” indicates Patrick Desjardins, director of development of the campus. This project, which is eagerly awaited by our community, will offer it new cutting-edge teaching and research facilities as well as friendly, accessible and open living spaces. »

Remember that the J.-Armand-Bombardier pavilion was named in honor of the Quebec inventor and entrepreneur Joseph-Armand Bombardier, to whom we owe the snowmobile.
