This is another huge seizure carried out by Senegalese Customs. Indeed, according to a press release from the Communication and Public Relations Division of the General Directorate of Customs (DGD) “The agents of the Commercial Customs Brigade of Keur-Ayip, Kaolack Subdivision, Central Customs Region have carried out, this Saturday, June 1, 2024, a seizure of thirty (30) kilograms of cocaine on board a HUNDAI SANTAFE type vehicle registered abroad. »

“The drugs were hidden in the cavities of the doors and trunk of the vehicle. The said vehicle, coming from a country bordering Senegal, was passed through a portable scanner, a non-intrusive control tool acquired as part of the Customs Administration Modernization Program (PROMAD) and made available to the units for greater efficiency in the research and repression of trafficking in illicit products. This control system made it possible to foil the ingenious modus operandi that the traffickers used to deceive the vigilance of the agents,” underlined the press release, which specifies that “The total value of the drugs seized is estimated at two billion four hundred million (2,400,000,000) CFA francs. The conveyors (a driver and his companion) were put under arrest. The procedure continues. The unit, in the same operation, seized three (03) homemade rifles near Boumbény (Medina Sabakh), a stone’s throw from the border with Gambia. »

Also, the note recalls, “the Keur-Ayip Customs Commercial Brigade had recently seized 13 kg of cocaine. As part of the fight against trafficking in Indian hemp, of the 300 kg seized between January and the end of May 2024 by the Kaolack Subdivision, 105 kg were seized by the Keur-Ayip Customs Commercial Brigade. »

On this, the Customs Administration reaffirms its determination to combat illicit trafficking in all its forms. At the same time, it invites the population to support customs units in the targeting and investigation operations launched since the start of 2024 to deal with the currents of criminal trafficking operating on the major corridors.
