SENEGAL- SANITATION / Thiaroye-sur-mer: a private company and its partners initiate a beach cleaning day – Senegalese press agency

Thiaroye, September 28 (APS) – Nestlé Senegal, in collaboration with the National Integrated Waste Management Company (SONAGED) and the town hall of Thiaroye-sur-mer, mobilized several community stakeholders on Saturday to clean the beach of this commune in the suburbs of Dakar and raise awareness among local residents of the importance of preserving their environment.

Young people, children, agents from the town hall of Thiaroye-sur-mer and those from SONAGED, as well as staff from Nestlé Senegal and many other community stakeholders, equipped with shovels, rakes, brooms and wheelbarrows, hours, cleared the beach of waste and other garbage.

”What we did today [samedi]is a symbol, an act of commitment in our approach which aims to protect our environment, our natural resources to offer a better living environment to current and future generations,” declared Issa Sanogo, the general director of Nestlé Senegal.

He was speaking on the occasion of this clean-up day which aims to clean up the beach of Thiaroye-sur-mer, in particular by eliminating waste, but also by raising awareness among the inhabitants of this locality in the suburbs of Dakar on the importance to preserve their environment.

”We have a duty to contribute to a healthier environment. Our commitment is to have a positive impact on the lives of communities through our actions. We believe that everyone can have a positive impact on their living environment,” underlined the general director of Nestlé Senegal. ”Together, we can achieve results in preserving our environment,” he added.

Coming to represent the general director of SONAGED, Mbaye Fall Diallo urged community members to develop civic awareness, by working for a better living environment, in accordance with the call of the Head of State, who initiated the days ”Setal Sunu rew”, cleaning activities.

”Through this initiative by the President of the Republic, we must understand that we need a better living environment. This requires a citizen contribution,” he underlined.
