Bagnères-de-Bigorre. 15th Book Fair: “Women in the Pyrenees”

the essential
This is an expected variation linked to the Pyrenees. Binaros, who organizes the show, has chosen this year the non-exclusive subject “Women in the Pyrenees”.

It is a common thread in a territory where women have a singular status and occupy a special place in Pyrenean literature. Between sea and ocean, the “playground” is immense for leisure activities, of course, for hiking, photography, cooking… but also in the exploration of social situations of yesterday and today, contemporary questions, reality on the move…

Live, at the Pyrenees Book Fair you can browse, meet and discuss so many subjects that it is no coincidence that around 75 exhibitors will be present. Publishers, artists, speakers, researchers will be there to welcome visitors always hungry for new things, making an appointment with an evolution in which new arrivals are part of which are just as feminine.

The Pyrenees Book prices, the showcase of the show

A jury of 9 people selected the four books, in four categories, in a way chapter heads or pillars of the building, collective books, and not really by chance that women are very present there. The choice of subject attracts the reader’s interest, but it is also the work of the writing, the care taken in publishing a cult book in its layout, its illustrations, the paper, the cover that small publishing houses favor today.

With the Patrimone Thermal “From glory to peril” (Knowledge category prize). Viviane Delpech addresses a current topic.

Camille Brabant and Naomi Rossignol, with “Spinning natural fibers…” (Guide) open up the field of possibilities as in a story of a bucolic walk open to craftsmanship.

In “Pastorales”, Violaine Bérot, Florence Debove, Jean-Christophe Cavallin (Literature) tell, like news, life on the summer pastures, the reality of the profession of shepherd, breeder, between pastoralism and the environment. And there is the very moving book (Binaros Prize) “Of Borders and Women” by Manuela Parra, a favorite for these interviews transcribed with modesty concerning the lives of these exiled women, from a time perhaps not so gone.

Agnès and Didier, two of the readers of the 77 books received, accompanied by Josette Lafargue, “jury coach” appreciated the subjects, the writing, the eclecticism and its poetics, the beauty of the word, the emotion between the lines .

The tradition is part of continuity, so you have to go take a tour of the SLP, let yourself be guided, watch Israel Arino’s exhibition “you have to be born there to stay there”, attend the theatrical performances “Death of a mountain” or “(the) daring ones of Vignemale”, follow the screenings and debates, make great encounters also at the literary cafés and during round tables. Don’t hesitate to come with children, a space is reserved for them with workshops.
