The region’s transport authority will implement a fare reform starting in January 2025, Le Parisien revealed on Tuesday. It will allow travel throughout the region at a fixed price, regardless of the length of the journey. A second fixed fare, at two euros, will apply to tram-bus journeys.

There “ticketing revolution” according to the expression used by Valérie Pécresse, will take place. The president of the Ile-de- region is behind a tariff reform of the Ile-de-France transport network (metro, RER, tramway, bus) which should take place as early as January 2025, according to THE ParisianExit the various tickets, and in particular the famous book of ten tickets at the preferential rate, offered to the four million users who do not hold a Navigo pass, and who favor single purchases whose costs vary according to the destination.

Within three months, they will be replaced by a single fare system. A smoothing of prices modeled on what was done with the Navigo pass, which was dezoned in 2015. In 2025, there will only be two types of tickets, with a fixed fare regardless of the journey.

The first, which can be used on the Paris metro, on the RER from one end of the lines to the other and on suburban trains in all zones, will cost €2.50 each. Until now, a single ticket to travel in Paris (the T+ ticket) cost €2.15. On the other hand, the three million occasional users who are used to using so-called “OD” tickets (origin-destination, up to five euros to travel to the Paris region countryside) will all be winners.

For the second, intended for buses in Paris and its suburbs as well as on tram lines, you will have to pay two euros per journey. The purchase of the ticket on board the bus will not change, at 2.50 euros. Note that journeys on “long” distance buses, which currently require validating two tickets, will be included in this new grid.

The Liberté + pass recommended for users

These tickets will remain printable in paper form until at least the end of next year, or can be stored on a Navigo Easy pass, on which it is already possible to compile your tickets. However, the fare reform will lead to the elimination of the carnet of ten, the offer of which was until now preferred by many users due to its more attractive cost (1.73 euros per unit).

Ile-de-France Mobilités advises users, both residents and tourists, to opt for a Liberté + pass. Activated using an account on the IDFM website or application (like a Navigo subscription), it allows users to pay only for journeys by direct debit the month following their completion. Until now reserved for journeys within Paris, it will now be extended to the entire region. With reduced fares: the future journey at 2.50 euros will cost 1.99 euros for the holder of the Liberté + pass, while the bus-tram ticket will be 1.60 euros.
