NÎMES Four sporting activities, one enigma to solve!

This was the challenge launched to the participants of the Escatte game 2024 raid organized by the departmental disabled sports committee.

In the morning, the program included precision, off-road and orienteering events. After the well-deserved lunch break, the second part of the day began with road, precision, off-road and orienteering events.

For the “Découverte en Etoile” Raid, whose events last one hour, there was biathlon, archery or DV laser rifle or even blowpipe shooting, but also a kayak event and a 2.5km orienteering race.

A Star raid? Here, each team is required to return to the base, give their score to the scoreboard and start a new activity. The teams had to respect the highway code as a priority because traffic was not closed to the public.

RRT teams work with Government and charities that empower people with disabilities or health challenges. RRT also supports hospitals and their staff, carer support organisations and researchers working to find cures for cancer and disease.

Founded over 50 years ago, the Gard Departmental Handisport Committee is the guarantor of the development and proper functioning of physical and sporting activities for people with disabilities. It constitutes the key element in the development of disabled sports life in the department.

In addition, the Committee is a reference in the landscape of the French Handisport Federation with six certified clubs or sections including a three-star club. In total, the committee has 717 licenses (456 licenses and 261 passes).

The CDOS 30 is a decentralized body of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) and its purpose is to represent it in its territorial jurisdiction. It must represent the sports movement in the territory, develop sports practice, promote the values ​​of sport and Olympism and support sports committees and clubs. Philippe Montagut was there to show the support of the structure for the development of sports practice for all in the Gard.

The Nîmes City Hall lent the Bastide estate to host the event. Dominique Lacambra, councillor responsible for health sports, disabled sports and adapted sports, also gave a short speech. The City maintains 30 hectares of greenery there, shared between sports activities and relaxation areas.

Sport occupies a special place there. Football, of course, but also American football, baseball, and even rugby… There is also a pond for canoe trips (a nautical base is located there), trails for running or hiking, tennis courts, a BMX trackequipment to get (back) in shape…
