This July 5, Joyce Jonathan will be officially crowned winner of the Star Academy Chinese. An incongruous victory for the one who deliberately led part of her career on this side of the globe. The singer is very moved and proud to have achieved this feat.

It’s a consecration that we didn’t see coming. Joyce Jonathan won the trophy on the Chinese show Cheng Fengluck of Star Academy local. The final will be broadcast on July 5 on Mango TV in China and on the Internet, but the outcome is already known and it means victory for the French singer. After four months of competition, Joyce Jonathan could not be happier to have won. On June 28, as she was preparing to return to Paris, she took the time to write a few words on Instagram to address this surprise victory. “You have given me a lot of strength since I started this job almost 15 years ago, I was so happy to be able to show them what we have built together. Here, I strengthened myself, I sang every day, assumed my movements, through multiple Chinese hits, a traditional Yue opera, and even a rap in Mandarin on a kung-fu dance for the final. It will be broadcast on July 5, but I think you understood that it went rather well!”

Joyce Jonathan has always been drawn to China

The interpreter of I don’t know is the only French woman to have participated in this Chinese competition which brings together singers, TV presenters and actresses from all over the world. In an interview given to Parisianshe looks back on her love for China, developed when she was very young, and “little seeds” that she has sown in 15 years to get there, “by leaving all [ses] records, doing concerts every year” in China. A strategy which has therefore paid off handsomely.

If Joyce Jonathan leaves China with a new trophy and new milestones achieved for her career, she also learns from it on a personal level. “This trip changed me”, she wrote to her followers on Instagram.He made me understand a lot of emotional nuances, the importance of work, rigor, self-confidence, failures from which we can only grow. […] I return with the feeling of having spoken the same universal language which is that of friendship, authentic exchanges and sharing with the other mainly Chinese participants.” Above all, the singer will be able to find her three-year-old daughter and recover from her emotions: I return with a light heart after these 4 months of pressure during which I shed so many tears, tested by the hectic pace, the distance, the regular trips back and forth, the jet lag and the lack.”
