A new original creation has emerged from the fruitful collaboration between Air Jordan, a Nike subsidiary, and the Parisian boutique Opium. Named “Jordan Air Ship SP x Opium”, this pair of sneakers celebrates traditional Moroccan craftsmanship and also tells the inspiring story of Yace and Mounir, founders of this Franco-Moroccan brand specializing in sportswear since 2001.

The new creation from these two collaborators revisits the iconic Air Jordan with a distinctive Moroccan touch. It features mosaic patterns inspired by traditional Moroccan zellige, present on both the logo and the sole of the shoe, highlighting the centuries-old heritage of Moroccan know-how that transcends borders.

Nike describes on its official website that the mosaic pattern is inspired by decorative glazed tiles handmade in Morocco. The shoe is made from premium leather, with a beige upper enhanced with black and purple reinforcements. Blue details complete the design of the pair. The black swooshes reveal a pattern symbolizing the dual culture of Opium’s founders, as explained by the store on Instagram.

Nike explained that the design of this new Jordan Air Ship evokes Opium’s Moroccan roots and the personal story of Yace and Mounir, who started with courage and ultimately created a community-centered store and creative platform, with a big success.

Yace and Mounir are recognized for their commitment to promoting streetwear culture in France, inspiring young people to bring original ideas that enrich the culture, as mentioned by the American brand.

A promotional video featuring Moroccan-born rapper Nayra and Allan Guenaoui, founder of Huncho Family, a brand celebrating Morocco’s artisanal heritage, has sparked a lot of admiration on social media. For the two collaborators, this project represents a way for young Moroccans to connect, share their visions and cultures, and inspire each other to create.

It is worth noting that the limited edition Jordan Air Ship SP x Opium will be available at their place starting June 29th, then on SNKRS in Europe starting July 6th.
