A fire broke out around 6 p.m. this Friday, June 21 at the Ouarzazate cinema museum. This fire is believed to be due to the use of special effects during the filming of a foreign film,
Residents of the town of Ouarzazate experienced an eventful afternoon following a fire at the cinema museum; “I passed by around 6:30 p.m., the flames were coming out of the area,” explains Houcine, who works in the 7th art sector.
An Informed source clarified that the visitors’ part was completely destroyed; “The fire broke out at 6 p.m. in the area reserved for visitors to the museum. This part is built with materials like hay, cork and rammed earth to keep the traditional appearance. These materials quickly caught fire which destroyed the sets. Fortunately, we only recorded material damage.”
Civil protection elements rushed to the scene of the incident to extinguish the flames; “Firefighters and local authorities mobilized to bring the fire under control and managed to put it out around 10 p.m. They are still on site to prevent the fires from starting again due to the wind,” explains our source, who emphasizes that an investigation is open to determine the causes of the fire.
The cinema museum, located a few meters from the kasbah of Taourirte and alongside the Ouarzazate artisanal complex, represents a monument to cinematographic production and housed the filming of several international films.
