Tonight on TV: the fate of this incredible woman moved millions of viewers around the world – Cinema News

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: Sigourney Weaver delivers a strong performance in this poignant biopic.

In 1989, Sigourney Weaver shocked millions of spectators by playing primatologist Dian Fossey on the big screen, who devoted her life to the study and saving of gorillas. If you want to discover his superb performance, good news: the poignant biopic Gorillas in the Mist is broadcast this Wednesday evening on Arte.

Released in theaters in 1989, Gorillas in the mist is the big screen adaptation of the life of Dian Fossey, a primatologist and naturalist who left in the 1980s to study gorillas in their natural environment in Rwanda, in order to defend them against poachers. She was found murdered in 1985 in circumstances that remained mysterious.

Gorillas in the mista hymn to nature and a vibrant plea for the protection of animals, has received five Oscar nominations, notably in the Best Actress category for Sigourney Weaver.

The film directed by Michael Apted (also known for having scored the James Bond The World Is Not Enough) also received two Golden Globes, for Best Actress in a Drama and for its original score by Maurice Jarre.

Sigourney Weaver is absolutely wonderful in Gorillas in the mist, with a performance as an animal defender oscillating between anger and love. The actress was so concerned by her incarnation of Dian Fossey that she joined the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, the gorilla protection organization.

A filming on the same places where Dian Fossey observed the gorillas

In order to ensure maximum authenticity, the director Michael Apted shot the majority of the scenes of Gorillas in the mist on the very places where Dian Fossey observed the gorillas.

While the film crew’s base camp was located in the Rwandan mountains at a height of 2,600 meters, a small team then had to climb up to 3,600 meters to reach Dian Fossey’s observation site.

The Rwandan government only authorized six people (including actors) to go there in order to protect the animals as much as possible.

The magnificent Gorillas in the mist was a great public success with more than 2 million spectators in French cinemas. What if you discovered an exceptional and overwhelming destiny, this evening, in front of your screen?

Tonight on Arte at 8:55 p.m.
