The sofa, worn by the six friends for 10 seasons and featured in the credits, is the iconic piece of the cult series. Clothes worn by the actors were also on sale.

Nearly $30,000 for a piece of furniture… that isn’t even original. A replica of the famous orange couch from the series Friends, which the six New York friends squatted on for 10 seasons, was sold at auction for $29,250 (26,300 euros) this Monday, September 23. Reproduced by the Warner Bros. studios teams, its value was estimated between $2,000 and $3,000. The sale, organized by Julien’s Auctions to mark the 30th anniversary of the series in partnership with the producer, included more than a hundred lots. Most are reproductions of iconic elements of the set, but some objects were actually used on the set.

A reproduction of the Central Perk coffee shop sign, created in 2005 for an exhibition, sold for $5,850. A copy of the “Aux Buttes ” poster that hung behind the television in Monica’s apartment sold for $2,275. An original stool from Ross’s apartment sold for $9,100. Several reproductions of episode scripts sold for more than $1,000 each.

$6,500 for a sweater

Several items of clothing worn by the actors on set were also included in the lot, each accompanied by a label from the costume department indicating which character the piece belonged to. Fans of the series paid $6,500 for a sweater worn by Jennifer Aniston, aka Rachel, in season 7, and the same amount for a sweater worn by Chandler, played by Matthew Perry, who died in late 2023.

A sweater worn by Monica (Courteney Cox) fetched $2,275, and another worn by Ross (David Schwimmer) fetched $2,925, both from Season 9. A brightly colored shirt and tie set worn by Central Perk waiter Gunther fetched $2,275. The actor who played the recurring character, James Michael Tyler, passed away in late 2021.
