UEFA has decided to appoint Swedish referee Glenn Nyberg to officiate the decisive Champions League match between PSG and PSV. A referee who left not only good memories for the Parisians.

For this third match of the group stage of the Champions League this season, UEFA has decided to appoint an up-and-coming referee for the upcoming PSG/PSV as it will be the Swede Glenn Nyberg. Only 36 years old, he still has limited European experience but he is one of the men in black whose popularity continues to rise. For the first time last year, he even refereed a quarter-final and the City/Inter clash at the start of the current season.

Mr. Nyberg has only encountered PSG once and it was a little less than a year ago during the trip to Dortmund, that of the group stage (1-1, goal of Zaire-Emery). While had to win or not lose depending on the results of the other teams, the Swede had not really helped the Parisians with several very doubtful contacts in the German distribution area which he had not transformed into penalties, notably a charge by Hummels on Kolo Muani.

On the PSV side, we were only refereed by Glenn Nyberg once and it’s a good memory even if the context was very different: it was a Conference League play-off against Maccabi Tel Aviv in February 2002, a match won only 1-0. In addition to these two matches, most of PSG’s internationals, like those of the Dutch club, have probably already crossed paths with their national team.

In the Champions League, it should also be noted that he whistled no less than three penalties in only eight matches refereed, or practically one match in two, but he never sent anyone off.
