The HES-SO increases its study tax, from 500 to 700 francs

The University of Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland (HES-SO) “adjusts” its study fee. By adaptation, we are talking here about an increase. From the start of the 2025 school year, Swiss students will have to pay 200 francs more per semester, which increases from 500 to 700 francs. The pain is heavier for foreign students, for whom the cost of the semester doubles, from 500 to 1050 francs.

“The study tax has not changed since the creation of the school 26 years ago and even after the increase, it will remain the lowest of all the specialized universities of Switzerland,” explains Christophe Darbellay, president of the government committee, the strategic steering body of the institution. The Valais State Councilor also explains the measure by recalling that an intercantonal agreement “requires us to achieve a certain harmonization with the other higher education institutions in the country”. For comparison, the Graubünden University of Applied Sciences requires 960 francs per semester from Swiss enrollees, that of Eastern Switzerland 1000 francs and that of Berne 869 francs.
