Biathlon: a double for Augustin Remonnay, also crowned French summer U17 champion
Certainly, in less than 17 years, the biathletes from Doubs are in good shape this weekend during the Arçon Summer Biathlon Tour (Doubs). At home, young Franche-Comté athletes effectively leave only crumbs for their adversaries. It is that, this Sunday morning a few minutes after the success of Rose Marguet on the female pursuit, Augustin Remonnay also won.
Already winner of the sprint on Saturday, the member of SC Val de Morteau therefore achieves a resounding double… at the same time offering him the title of French U17 summer biathlon champion 2024. But this race was far from being won in advance since no less than 17 biathletes stood within one minute at the start!
Beyond that, Augustin Remonnay set off at the same time as his club teammate Timéo Amiotte and with 3 seconds of margin on the Swiss Tobit Keller. In this configuration, the first shot, in prone mode, was tackled first by a pack of six athletes.
By achieving the only 5/5 of the leading group, Doubien took sole control of the race, widening a gap of around twenty seconds on his pursuers, less precise. The first one to stand went less well with three errors… but his opponents also made mistakes. Eventually, it was Martin Minazzi (10/15) who did the best, closing on the leader.
Niels Bibollet’s big and impressive comeback
At the final passage on the shooting range, the two men were still together and Minazzi dropped the first ball. Putting pressure on his opponent, the Villardian was caught in his own trap by missing three targets, when the Franc-Comtois only missed one.
Victory, then, held out its arms to Augustin Remonnay who could take advantage in the last hectometers. Second place ultimately went to Tobit Keller (10/15) while Niels Bibollet (10/15), only eighteenth at the start, made the day’s comeback to complete the podium in this pursuit.
Martin Minazzi thus finished fourth while the top 10 was completed by the Savoyard Mathis Yvoz (5/15), Chartrousin A little Andreis (10/15), the Bassurois Clovis Henocq (8/15), the Meuthiard Alexis Provost (9/15), the Féclazian Sacha Mazzilli-Riaboff (8/15) and the Savoyard Nans Vercueil (9/15).
