The government has indicated the recall of several Chavignol crottin cheeses from a contaminated batch. Consumers are asked to return the products and will be eligible for a refund. They are also advised to consult a doctor.

Attention reminder alert. Batches of Chavignol crottin cheeses have been recalled since Friday June 28. The various batches concerned are contaminated by E.Coli bacteria, indicates the government Rappel Conso website on which it is possible to access the list of products.

The cheeses in question come in 60g portions labeled AOP and are sold in stores of the Monoprix Gourmet, E.Leclerc, Intermarché and Franprix chains. The government specifies that the different batches were placed on the market from May 21. The contaminated cheeses all come from lot 123-01.

A dangerous bacteria

Toxigenic Shiga Escherichia coli (STEC), also called E.Coli, is a bacteria dangerous to humans. It can cause diarrhea, sometimes bloody, abdominal pain and vomiting sometimes accompanied by fever several weeks after contamination, indicates the recall. In 5 to 8% of cases, contamination can cause severe kidney complications, particularly in children.

The recall invites consumers of batches of cheese to consult a doctor as soon as possible, specifying the place and date of purchase of the product. After 15 days without symptoms, the consumer can stop worrying. The recall procedure will end in mid-July and will allow buyers to benefit from a refund after returning the product.
