“All we heard was a loud noise, ‘boom,’ and that was it. Then we started running” out of the building, Jerome Cruz told CBS News. This employee is one of the witnesses to the crash of a small plane Thursday at his factory near Los Angeles. At least two people died and several were injured, local police announced.
The crash took place early in the afternoon near the municipal airport in Fullerton, a small town located 40 kilometers southeast of Los Angeles. For now, its cause remains unknown. The plane involved in the crash is a Van's Aircraft RV-10, a model with four seats, according to the American aviation regulator (FAA), which has opened an investigation.
Identity of victims still unknown
Local media images show a gaping hole on the roof of a factory, from which smoke is escaping. Among the injured, “ten people were transported to area hospitals for treatment and eight people were treated on scene,” Fullerton police said on X.
Investigators do not yet know whether the deceased were on board the plane or workers at the factory where the plane crashed, a Fullerton police lieutenant told local channel KTLA.
