“Today, the health supply is threatened, we are afraid of not succeeding in treating our fellow citizens. In all situations, local care, unscheduled care, emergencies, we have deficits and difficulties news”, argued Thursday Frédéric Bierry, LR president of the CEA and vice-president of the Assembly of French Departments, responsible for health.

“Around 219,000 Alsatians encounter difficulties accessing primary care. This represents 11.5% of the regional population. This is less than the national average (18%), certainly, but with demographic aging in course, if we don’t act upstream, we will quickly be in the same situation.” According to the CEA, a quarter of the Alsatian population is over 60 years old.

Facilitate the installation of professionals

The community already devotes 596 million euros per year to public health issues (operation of nursing homes, disability care, home help, etc.). She now wants to “develop the healthcare offering in the regions” and “facilitate the installation of future professionals”.

“If we do not have child psychiatrists, we will have more and more difficulty recruiting educators specializing in child protection, for example: these are our public service missions that we will no longer be able to fulfill,” said added Frédéric Bierry.

Exodus to Switzerland

Although he recognized that Alsace had “assets” in terms of medical demography, in particular with the presence of a medical faculty in Strasbourg, he also highlighted certain difficulties, such as the departure to Germany and Switzerland of medical personnel, attracted by more advantageous financial conditions.

“We are looking at how to improve the situation, but we are also watchmen in relation to the State and I consider that we have the responsibility to sound the alarm at the national level,” indicated the elected official.
