With more than 25% of the votes, the FPÖ came first in the European elections on Sunday and won 6 seats. If this is not the far-right party’s best score in an election, it is the first time in its history that it has come in first position in an election organized throughout Austrian territory.

This score is certainly slightly lower than what the polls had predicted for weeks, but it is more than 8 points higher than that which the party obtained during the previous European election. It must be said that in 2019, this was held just a few days after Ibizagate, a resounding corruption scandal which concerned the FPÖ and had caused the fall of the coalition that the party then formed with the conservatives.
