Two people from the same family, including a child, were killed in an arson attack on the night of Saturday, January 4, in the commune of Bulengera, town of Butembo (North Kivu).

According to the president of the municipal civil society, John Kameta, suspected bandits set fire to the house after demanding money from the occupants.

Three other children and their mother were narrowly saved, said the same source.

« These bandits first asked for money from the head of this household who first gave what he found. The bandits are gone. But after a few minutes, they came back, according to the information we gathered on the ground, they locked mom and dad under the bed. In this house, there was fuel, they lit the fire to the point where Dad in any case was burned with the child. It was by grace that mom was narrowly saved if it must be said ,” John Kameta explained.

The mother is continuing treatment at a health facility, he adds.

While condemning this criminal act, this civil society actor recommended that the authorities launch an investigation in order to find the perpetrators of this crime.

His wish is that the perpetrators of this act be brought to justice.

John Kameta also asked the political authorities to refine strategies to curb insecurity in Butembo.
