Lara Gut-Behrami competed in her first World Cup race shortly after Christmas 2007. She was unable to qualify for the second round of the giant slalom in Lienz. Less than two months later, she finished sensationally on the third podium in her first World Cup downhill race at her home race in St. Moritz. What we will especially remember is his “cut” shortly before the finish line, his face covered in snow after the fall and his childish joy.
The radiant laughter of yesteryear has given way to a satisfied smile. The 16-year-old prodigy became one of the most successful skiers in history. She can qualify as an Olympic gold medalist in Super-G, a two-time world champion (Super-G and giant slalom) and a two-time overall World Cup winner. With now 45 World Cup victories, she is the second most successful Swiss skier in history.
Thanks to Constance for the big crystal ball
Gut-Behrami’s final season was particularly remarkable, in which she won eight World Cup races – more than ever before in her long career. She is the best giant slalom rider of the winter and also number 1 in Super-G. The reward for her consistent results in the three disciplines in which she competes is the big crystal ball that allows her to win the World Cup overall.
At 33 years old, Gut-Behrami is still as good as ever. Because she knows what is good for her and what she needs to succeed. She is not afraid to express her opinion and assert it. This is how she stays on top. For the second time in a row and for the third time in total, she is named Swiss athlete of the year.
