It’s the confectioners’ break and the athletes are off for a few more days. Here is a mid-season review of the emblematic clubs in the sector, in Eure.

Handball

The SMV, pattern size

THE handball players from Saint-Marcel Vernon (SMV) have had a very convincing first part of the season. Firmly clinging to the leadership position of Pool 3 of Nationale 2, the Eurois produced an almost perfect copy: ten victories in eleven matches.

Only the Marolles team managed to beat SMV on December 7. All with one small goal. The other teams suffered from the law of Patrick Bonte’s protégés.

Prolific in attack and solid in defense, SMV is, with 31 points, four steps ahead of its runner-up Savigny. A team that he beat on December 14 in his home at Grévarin (36-31).

The handball players will have to wait several weeks to return to the championship games. Next match scheduled for Saturday February 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Vernon against the Union sportif orléanaise, well placed in 3rd place with 26 points.

In the meantime, the European handball players will compete against -Vernouillet (federal N1), on January 11, for the Coupe de . A big test run before the resumption of the championship.

Basket

Vernon in trouble

Jean-Philippe Tailleman’s men sell their skin dearly in Pool F of Nationale 3. Many matches are ultra-close but do not turn out to the advantage of the Vernonnais. Like the last match against Bihorel, on December 7, with a three-point defeat (66-69).

After eleven days, the SPN Vernon basket has 14 points (three wins and eight defeats) and is in 12th place in the standings out of fourteen teams.

Positive point of this season: the Vernonnais are rarely dropped in matches. The proof is their positive goal average of +4 in the ranking (868 points scored against 864 conceded).

Which suggests a better second half of the season. If luck changes from time to time.

Saint-Marcel stuck in the middle of the table

Saint-Marcel Football club got off to a good start to the season. Laurent His’s protégés have a balanced record in Group B of Regional 1 with 13 points (four wins, one draw and four defeats), far from the untouchable leader Havre Caucriauville (26 points).

To remember, the very good run in the Coupe de France which saw the Saint-Marcellois reach the fifth round. Unfortunately, they failed on penalties against FC Olympia’Caux (R2) while leading at the break 2-0.

Vernon will play maintenance

In the same group as Saint-Marcel, SPN Vernon is experiencing all the difficulties in the world to get out of the red zone.

With 8 points (two wins, two draws and six defeats), the Vernonnais are ranked in 11th place. During certain matches, the Eurois completely missed the subject. Like the last meeting against Yvetot where they were swept aside 6-0.

Clearly, 2024-2025 is shaping up to be a very complicated season. The mayonnaise is not setting at the moment. The successive changes of coach, one during the off-season and two since the start of the championship, are certainly not unrelated.

Gasny displays a balanced balance sheet

Resident of Group H of Regional 3, the Union sportif de Gasny closed the first part of the season well by winning 2-0 against FC Eure Madrie Seine.

In nine matches, the Gasnytois have a very balanced record with three wins, three draws and three defeats. The Eurois have 12 points and are in 7th place in the ranking, twelve lengths behind leader Pacy-Ménilles.
