Washington under the snow, -18°C… Photos of the winter storm in the United States

Since Sunday, the central and eastern United States have been swept by a major winter storm. Heavy snowfall has affected more than 50 million residents with flight cancellations, school closures and road accidents. Above all, this part of the country is now preparing to shiver: the meteorological services predict that temperatures will drop to -18°C in places, with strong gusts of wind. The authorities are therefore on alert as five people have died in accidents linked to the dire conditions in the states of Missouri and Kansas.

In Washington, a white blanket covered the streets. Sidewalks and parks have become the playground for snowball fights for children and adults, images to be found in our slideshow.
