Vinicius Jr risks a heavy sanction which could prevent him from participating in the Spanish Super Cup, after his expulsion by referee César Soto Grado during the match between his club, Real Madrid and Valencia on Friday evening.

The match, won spectacularly by Real Madrid (2-1) after being behind, was marked by an incident involving Vini. The latter, accustomed to controversies during matches at the Mestalla stadium, was sent off after an altercation with the Valencia goalkeeper.

The incident began when the Brazilian fell in the Valencia penalty area. The goalkeeper, Dmitrievski, approached him and reproached him, accusing the Brazilian striker of having tried to fake to obtain a penalty. In response, Vinícius got up and violently pushed the goalkeeper in the face.

After consulting VAR, the referee decided to send off the Madrid player, who could be suspended for his team’s next four matches if the referee’s report confirms his behavior.

If this sanction is applied, Vinicius will miss the Super Cup semi-final against Mallorca next Wednesday. If Real Madrid wins, he would also be absent from the final.

This is the Brazilian striker’s first expulsion this season. His last expulsion dates back to last May, also during a match against Valencia, during the 35th day of La Liga.

Furthermore, thanks to this victory against Valencia, Real Madrid temporarily took the lead in the Spanish championship with 43 points in 19 games, two points ahead of Atlético Madrid, who have a game in hand. Valencia, for its part, remains in 19th position with 12 points.
