The 24-year-old young woman had gone to walk her dog in the area around Cholet, in Maine-et-Loire. The gendarmes issued a call for witnesses on Saturday January 4.
Justine Roche, 24, was found dead in a collective basin located in Maine-et-Loire, Angers public prosecutor Éric Bouillard announced on Sunday January 5, reports France 3.
His lifeless body was located just 300 meters from the family home, in La Roche Baraton. He was found late Sunday morning.
The young woman had gone to walk her dog in the vicinity of the town of Beaupréau, near Cholet, and had not given any further news. A call for witnesses was issued by the gendarmes on Saturday January 4.
The preferred accidental track
The police had mobilized significant resources to find Justine Roche. “The searches have mobilized 70 soldiers from the Cholet company for two days, including two canine teams with a Saint-Hubert (dog), the helicopter from the SAG of Saint-Nazaire and three divers from the Nantes nautical brigade,” said assured the Angers prosecutor.
The prosecutor indicates that the currently favored lead is that of an accident, while in addition to the body of the young woman, the corpse of a fox was also found in the basin. For investigators, the young student may have wanted to help her dog, attacked by the fox.
An investigation has been opened, while the causes of Justine Roche's death have yet to be formally established.
