graphics boosted by AI?! Everything you need to know

Before talking to you about this particularly interesting subject, I would first like to wish you an excellent new year, my dear readers! Thank you for your loyalty to our page and for all the moments that we will still share!

What if the Nintendo Switch 2 pushed the boundaries of gaming? A patent suggests that Nintendo’s next console could adopt AI upscaling, promising lighter files and increased resolution. The goal is to provide an optimal gaming experience.

Nintendo Switch 2? An update for revolutionary graphics?

A new wave of fascinating Nintendo Switch 2 information emerges, this time regarding a potential graphics scaling technology.

According to a patent filed by Nintendo in July 2023 and recently released, the next console could integrate an innovative solution to improve image resolution. According to the patent, it is a solution based on machine learning algorithms.

But why use this technology? In fact, these algorithms make it possible to convert low resolution images. For example, it is possible to convert 540p to high resolution, such as 1080p. And this while minimizing hardware requirements.

The patent also mentions that these techniques could be extended to 4K resolutions. I must also admit that this suggests exciting possibilities for improved graphics without compromising performance.

AI scaling? A solution to revolutionize video games?

Certainly, the patent refers to numerous applications for video games. However, there is still no guarantee that it will actually be integrated into the Nintendo Switch 2, even if this technology seems particularly suitable.

A notable aspect of the document also allows us to know that this scaling by AI could contribute to reduce game file size. This would be possible, for example, by benefiting lower resolution textures. This is also the case if we use AI to upscale them. In this way, it would be possible to keep physical media more compact.

This technology is part of a growing trend in the video game industry, where AI plays a key role in improving graphics performance. Solutions like Nvidia’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR already dominate on PC.

For its part, Sony introduced its own technology, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), with the PS5 Pro. So, we just have to see if Nintendo follows suit, but only an official announcement can confirm the brand’s intentions.

And you, what do you think? Don’t hesitate to share your opinion in the comments!
