Tunisian tennis player Ons Jabeur continues to delight Tunisians. The 40th player in the world in the WTA ranking managed to qualify for the 3rd round of the WTA 500 tournament in Brisbane by beating Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, 28th in the WTA ranking, in straight sets.
The one nicknamed “the Minister of Happiness” beat her opponent the Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-3, 6-2. This victory follows her success against the Chinese Zheng Saisai in straight sets (7-6, 6-4), in the 32nd final of the tournament in Brisbane (Australia).
In the third round, scheduled for January 2, the Tunisian player will face the Armenian Elina Avanesyan, 42nd in the WTA rankings, one of her main competitors. She will therefore have to remain vigilant against this opponent, who eliminated her doubles partner, the Spaniard Paula Badosa (12th in the world), in three sets (6-3, 1-6, 6-2) in the second round.
This victory puts an end to a particularly difficult year, marked by several injuries which kept her away from the field for the last four months. She only managed to return to competition on Sunday December 29.
