It is a New Breath for Senegalese Crafts. Indeed, as part of the major infrastructure projects linked to the 2026 Youth Olympic Games, APDA and AGEROUTE have signed a strategic agreement to support and train artisans impacted by the work, in particular the rehabilitation of the Iba stadium Mar Diop, located in the heart of the Medina.
To meet these challenges, the State of Senegal is providing “La Maison du Cuir”, a modern infrastructure of 3000 m² in the heart of this emblematic district. This space will become both a production center and a training place, equipped with the latest technologies to strengthen the skills of artisans, particularly in the leather and skins sectors.
By 2029, the objective is to train 3,000 artisans and provide them with modern and efficient tools, while rehabilitating artisanal activities impacted by major projects. This initiative also aims to promote the cultural heritage of the Medina, a symbol of rich and diverse craftsmanship. Finally, it emphasizes collaboration between the private sectors, public institutions and development partners, in order to build sustainable and competitive crafts.
With this ambitious initiative, La Maison du Cuir has established itself as a model of modernization and promotion of Senegalese craftsmanship, in perfect harmony with Vision Senegal 2050.
