The fire which ravaged the old Koné coffee barn on Friday January 3 started at a window, according to firefighters. Exhausted by repeated interventions, they remind the arsonists that each outbreak of fire puts lives in danger.

The investigation continues to determine the origin of the fire which ravaged the old Koné coffee barn on Friday January 3. But the first findings indicate an intentional start of fire, at a window on the ground floor, around 4 o'clock.

The Northern bookstore and the psychology office are the most affected. The building, which also houses the SIC offices, was burglarized in August 2024.

We must remind the population and arsonists that by setting fires they endanger lives.

And for three months, firefighters have intervened several times a week to put out voluntary fires, day and night, indicates Commander Sylvio Loquet, from the Pouembo and Koné fire and rescue center.

Tired, the emergency services fear that the situation will lead to significant risks. At the old barn, they had to intervene at height, at roof level, “to attack the beams”, the floor between the two floors was no longer strong enough.

We must remind the population and arsonists that by setting fires, they endanger firefighters. We're starting to run out of steam, we're tired”, alerts Commander Sylvio Loquet.
