Almost a year ago, an individual fired in the direction of the police. He was convinced that they were not real soldiers and wanted to avoid being killed. Since the events, the suspect has been indicted and imprisoned. But he has just requested his release under judicial supervision.
Convinced that he was being chased by dangerous people, he ended up shooting the police. These events, which occurred almost a year ago in Labastide-Clermont near Toulouse, led this 25-year-old man to a stay in psychiatry followed by incarceration. This Tuesday, December 31, he has just requested his release under judicial supervision, while he is indicted for attempted murder of persons holding public authority.

“I regret my action,” he assures from the outset from the box of the court of appeal of the investigating chamber. “You were in a state of severe paranoia and refused to follow treatment,” recalls one of the magistrates.
The case dates back to January 17, 2024, around 10 a.m. At the end of the morning, paramedics went to his home to take him to hospital. But the individual barricades his home and threatens the responders. Soldiers from the Seysses brigade community intervene. Then, as the situation does not change for hours, the police call a negotiator.

“You thought someone was following you and you didn’t want to sleep,” explains the judge, addressing the defendant. To keep from falling asleep, the individual used cocaine for four days.
Disoriented by these substances and armed after a stay in the cities of Marseille, the defendant completely lost control in the middle of the afternoon. He thinks the gendarmes are fake soldiers and shoots. “The bullet, which could have injured or killed, fortunately ended up in a fence wall, thus sparing the police,” confided a neighbor, who witnessed this distressing scene at the time. The individual will ultimately be subdued. According to a medical report presented at the hearing, the defendant's condition is now stabilized thanks to regular drug treatment. He says he can take control of his life. The attorney general strongly objects to this sentiment. The decision relating to his release should be pronounced this Friday.
