Very undisciplined against an offensive machine, Canada failed to do itself justice despite 39 shots on the opposing net to finally lose 4-1 to the United States, Tuesday evening, during the last match of the preliminary round at the World Junior Hockey Championship in Ottawa.
Late at the start of the third period after Cole Hutson’s goal, Lane’s brother from the Montreal Canadiens, Bradly Nadeau created the tie for the maple leaf, giving his team hope of finishing first in Group A.
Danny Nelson and Cole Eiserman, however, scored two more power play goals to secure the victory for the Americans. Ryan Leonard completed the score into an empty net.
Mathieu Cataford of the Océanic did not participate in the scoring.
Canada finally finished third in Group A. For a second consecutive year, it will face the Czech Republic and Pavel Simek of the Océanic in the quarter-final, Thursday evening, at the Canadian Tire Centre.
The United States will face Switzerland and Basile Sansonnens, Sweden will play Latvia and Finland will face Slovakia.
