FC Barcelona and its president Joan Laporta are preparing to enter 2025 facing a situation that could seal the end of his mandate. This comes after LaLiga confirmed in a brief statement that Dani Olmo’s registration is now lapsed.

“FC Barcelona has not presented an alternative which, respecting the economic control regulations of LaLiga, would allow them to register a player from January 2,” the league’s announcement said.

The midfielder arrived from RB Leipzig and was registered on August 27. However, financial fair play issues could lead to the player’s contract being terminated.

The Blaugrana club had concluded two agreements to sell VIP boxes at the Camp Nou, aiming to generate 100 million euros. With this income they could have registered Olmo and Víctor, as well as respecting the 1:1 rule for new signings.

However, without full payment guarantees for these deals, LaLiga has not approved the players’ registration. Therefore, Barça had to turn to the Real Federación Española de Fútbol, the governing body of the upcoming matches for the Blaugrana (Copa del Rey and Supercopa).

The Catalans have requested a new license for the two players from the Federation, which will have to respond quickly. In the absence of a favorable resolution for the team, Olmo could theoretically leave for free, with rumors suggesting several Premier League clubs are already monitoring his situation.
