Barcelona (dpa) – Professional footballer Dani Olmo has decided to stay at FC Barcelona, according to his advisor, despite the difficulties surrounding his registration with the club. Advisor Andy Bara told Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano that the former RB Leipzig player made the decision because he wants to play for Barca. “We are not considering any other option,” Bara stressed.

The Catalan club, led this season by former national team coach Hansi Flick, signed Olmo for a reported fee of €55 million this summer. The European champion has a contract with the club until June 2030.

However, FC Barcelona are facing financial difficulties and are now struggling to register the attacking midfielder for the second half of the season. The deadline for registration is 11:59 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. If he is not registered, Olmo will no longer be part of the squad and would be free to leave.

Spanish media reported that the club recently tried, unsuccessfully, to force registration through the courts. To resolve the problem, FC Barcelona is trying to raise 100 million euros through the sale of VIP boxes in the renovated Camp Nou stadium to an Arab investment fund. Relevant documents have been submitted to the league for review in the New Year, it was said.
