What public transport tonight in big cities?

You have decided to celebrate the New Year away from home and you don’t know how, drunk at 2 a.m. (drink in moderation blabla) to get home, here are the public transport available this festive night in the four largest French cities.

Six metro lines (1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 14) will be open all night, and all free of charge between 5 p.m. and midnight. Small detail though, not all stations will be served after classic closing times (1h30), only stations allowing changes of lines and the biggest stops. Same logic for all RER A, B, C and E. For RER C and D, they will also run all night, but only in the Paris-Suburbs direction.

To improve road fluidity, the Marseille bus network is modified, with many stops not served. “Depending on how the situation evolves, other arrangements may be put in place,” specifies the Régie des Transports Marseillais. Real-time traffic trends are available directly on their site.

For New Year’s Eve, TCL metros will run all night from December 31, 2024 to January 1, 2025 in Lyon. Allow between 5 and 12 minutes of waiting between metros depending on the lines. The Saint-Just funicular () will run every 12 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m. Bus lines will also be reinforced with a frequency every 30 minutes.

Fewer miracles in Lille, where the metros and trams will certainly be extended at night, but only by an hour, at 1h30 for the metro, and 1h20 for the tram. Not crazy, but buses will be available all night with one passing every 20 minutes.

Come on, have a good New Year’s Eve.
