Free has just announced the deployment of a new system update for its entire Freebox range, including the Revolution, Pop, Delta and Ultra models. This version 4.8.17 mainly aims to improve the stability and performance of Wi-Fi connections.
The update brings several important fixesin particular for connectivity problems on the 2.4 GHz band of boxes equipped with Wi-Fi 7, particularly concerning Freebox Ultra and Pop. It also resolves stability issues encountered in installations using several repeaters connected via Ethernet. Freebox Pop users also benefit from a specific correction concerning the saving of the Wi-Fi key hiding parameter.
At the same time, Free is rolling out a 2.5.7 update for its Wi-Fi repeaters, closely linked to the improvements made to Freeboxes. This version notably fixes problems on the 2.4 GHz band of Wi-Fi 7 repeaters and optimizes the stability of multi-repeater configurations in Ethernet connection.
How to install the update on your Freebox and its repeaters?
Installing these updates is simple: a simple restart of the Freebox Server is enough to trigger the download and automatic installation. Wi-Fi repeaters usually update automatically when the Server restarts, but may require a manual restart if necessary. We simply advise you unplug them and plug them back in after updating your server.
For people interested in purchasing a Freebox, the offer starts with the Freebox Revolution Light at €19.99 per month for the first year, then €29.99. Users looking for the best performance can opt for the Freebox Ultra, which offers the highest speeds in the range. Free has just unveiled yesterday a new limited version of its Freebox Ultra, which will undoubtedly please fans of LEDs and transparency.
The update is available now for all affected subscribers. It is good to see Free improve its offers without increasing prices, and above all correct the bugs encountered by subscribers to its service. It now remains to be seen what the operator is preparing for the future, perhaps the long-awaited new version of the Freebox Player which should have accompanied the Freebox Ultra when it was released?
