King Leo, cult manga by Osamu Tezuka, is back at Delcourt/Tonkam, December 4, 2024

Initially released in in 1996-1997 by Éditions Glénat, then republished by the late Kazé Manga in 2010-2011, King Leo d’Osamu Tezuka had become very difficult to find for many years, even though it is one of the most famous “youth” mangas from the man nicknamed the god of manga, to the point of having even inspired Disney its great classic The Lion King.

It is therefore with joy that we can welcome the beautiful announcement made by the editions Delcourt/Tonkam last night on their social networks: the work will make its return in our language in the month of May 2025in the form of a prestige edition! We will have to wait to find out more about this release, but we imagine that we will have the same large format with hardback cover as for the other prestige editions of Tezuka previously released by the publisher.

In Japan, the work was originally pre-published between November 1950 and April 1954 in the Manga Shônen magazine from publisher Gakudosha, and is therefore one of the main successes of Tezuka’s early career. It initially totaled 3 volumes, but over time there were many different editions from several publishers.

Synopsis :

Pandja, the formidable White Lion, is killed by poachers. They capture his wife to exhibit her in a zoo in Europe. Along the way, she gives birth to Léo. The latter manages to escape and return to his native land, where his father’s throne is now empty…
