Many things will change in July, such as the price of gas increasing once again, the regulation of “shrinkflation”, or the change in the calculation of the DPE for small homes. Here is what will change from this July 1st.
While July marks the start of the summer holidays for many French people, it is also the month of many changes in France, some of which will have direct consequences on your wallet. Here is everything that will change from this Monday, July 1st.
The gas bill will increase
This is probably the worst news for the wallets of the 10.5 million natural gas subscribers in France. The Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) has announced that the average price of gas will increase. An increase of 11.7% compared to the June price, with an average level that will be €129.2/MWh including tax. An increase mainly linked to the recent rebound in prices but also to the surge in gas transport costs (storage, transport, etc.)

But also to the need to finance the maintenance of natural gas networks. And it is consumers’ bills that will suffer the consequences. The energy policeman nevertheless emphasizes that despite this increase, the average price remains lower than €4.7/MWh including tax, which was that of January 1, 2024.
Small homes will benefit from the change in DPE calculation
Another change concerns the DPE (energy performance diagnosis) which evaluates the energy performance of a property by classifying it from “A” to “G”. It will evolve for small areas of less than 40m² which were often less well classified than the average, in accordance with the ruling of March 25, 2024. This modification will consist of a weighting of fixed consumption by coefficients adapted to small areas which should allow them to escape the category of “energy sieves”. For each accommodation affected by this simplification, it will be possible, from this month of July, to generate a new DPE certificate.

“Shrinkflation”: mandatory label in stores
“Shrinkflation”, understand “reduflation” in French, refers to commercial practices having the effect of masking the reduction in the quantity of certain products while maintaining their price, or even increasing it. From this month of July, it will be obligatory, for medium and large stores, “to clearly indicate the upward trend in the prices of consumer products having suffered a drop in quantity”, writes the government.

To do this, you will need to indicate directly on the product packagingOr on a label attachedthe following sentence: “For this product, the quantity sold has increased from X to Y and its price in (unit of measurement concerned) has increased by X% and/or by Y€”, assures the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Correction for taxes open
Did you make a mistake when filing your tax return last spring? Did you notice that an error had crept into it? Don’t panic, as of July 31, you will be able to modify the necessary elements on your 2023 income. To do this, nothing could be simpler, you just need to go to the online tax return correction service available on impots.gouv.fr. And you will have time to do it since the service will be available until December 4, 2024 inclusive.

New savings plan for young people
The “future climate savings plan (PEAC)”. This is how this new savings product reserved for under 21s is called. It will be available from July 1st. Established by the law relating to green industry of October 23, 2023, its objective is to mobilize the savings of young people in favor of the ecological transition. According to the decree published in the Official Journal, only one plan can be opened per person. It will be possible to open it for your child from birth, the amounts will then be blocked until they reach the age of majority and, like the A booklet, the ceiling is set at 22,950 euros.
