But what “major sporting event” will take place in Brittany? The mystery was maintained until this Monday morning, but we now know that the women’s Tour de France will spend 3 days in Brittany on July 26,27,28, 2025. We tell you everything.

The invitation came to the editorial offices last Friday. The message was rather laconic: “Brittany will host a major sporting event in 2025. and to find out more, meet this Monday June 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the Regional Council for a surprise press conference.

For Marion Rousse, the director of the women’s Tour de France, this departure for Brittany was obvious:

“This Grand Départ in three days of racing, from Vannes to Plumelec then from Brest to Quimper before taking off from La Gacilly, had become an obvious part of the history and genes of cycling, and women’s cycling in particular. Through its champions, through its professional Arkea-B&B Hotels Women team, through its structures which support young riders towards the high level, Brittany has the legitimacy and the assets to launch this fourth Tour de France Femmes with Zwift with fervor. The 2025 edition, which will therefore head west, will undoubtedly confirm the immense sporting and popular success of its predecessors. By finding its place in the heart of summer, in the sequence with the Tour, this long Breton weekend will thus begin a new big exciting week to conclude a month of non-stop competition. The party promises to be sumptuous. »

Loïg Chesnais Girard, the president of the Brittany Regional Council, also does not hide his satisfaction.

“It is a real Source of pride for Brittany, because cycling is part of the identity of our territory, our heritage, our culture and, increasingly, our daily lives. It is the certainty of emotions pure and intense moments of sharing.”

From the port of Vannes, on the edge of the Gulf of Morbihan, via Arradon, where Nolann Le Garrec, a new gem of French rugby, grew up, the stage will conclude on the Plumelec circuit. Its arrival at the top of the Cadoudal hill (1.7 km at 6.2%) was the scene of many battles in the Grand Prix du Morbihan, for both women and men. It was also at its summit that Bernard Hinault and Alejandro Valverde wore the first Yellow Jersey for the 1985 and 2008 Tours de France.

It is from La Gacilly, already a stage town for the Tour de Bretagne and the Tour de l’Avenir, that the peloton will set off to leave Brittany. The hometown of Yves Rocher, founder of the eponymous brand, is a prettily flowery city which nestles languidly in the green Aff valley and which promises a physical journey.
