Victim of an attack in mid-May, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that he was ready to return to office at the end of June. This announcement was made in a fourteen-minute video posted on Facebook, marking his first speaking since the incident where he was seriously injured by several bullets fired at close range.

In addition to his intention to quickly resume his activities, Robert Fico addressed the question of his attacker. Having no hatred toward the individual who shot him, he added that he forgives and lets the man think about his actions and their motivations.

On May 15, while greeting his supporters after a government meeting in the central town of Handlova, Robert Fico was shot four times, including in the abdomen.

The suspected shooter, identified by the media as Juraj Cintula, a 71-year-old poet and described by the Prime Minister as an opposition activist, was charged with attempted premeditated murder and placed in pre-trial detention.

Robert Fico was taken to Banska Bystrica hospital, where he underwent two long surgeries. After a period of convalescence, he was transferred home on May 31 for continued treatment.
