At the time when he began to know success, he lost his father to a heart disease.

When the Unknowns began to gain fame, his father had died a year earlier.That was very hard for my mother, but for me it was always: “Shit, he died too early. He didn’t get to see” (his success, editor’s note), “says Bernard Campan. His father died at 58 from a heart condition that still allowed him to live his last moments with his son.”Still, the contacts I had with him before his death and before it worked filled me with positivity because I really felt his gaze on me, both loving. He died of a heart condition so he felt things happening and so, I think he opened up a lot. We had dinners together, we told each other things. And I felt, at the same time this admiration that I was looking for so much, but which carried me and this love and this trust“, says the actor, with tears in his eyes.
Bernard Campan opens up about his regrets at his father’s death
The actor’s father was afraid that the theater would not work and would not achieve its first successes. “It’s true that sometimes it hurt me to say to myself: ‘Ah, damn, he won’t know that.’ It hurt me, actually, through my mother who felt it especially. I had probably mourned my father more than she had mourned her husband. She couldn’t rejoice in the good things that were happening to me because my father wasn’t there to see it.“, confides Bernard Campan. A painful moment for the family while the actor’s career was taking off.
