TotalEnergies announced on Wednesday an agreement with the investment fund EIG to acquire the operator of the West Burton B gas power station in the United Kingdom, a transaction aimed at compensating, according to the French group, for the intermittency of energy sources. renewable.
The energy company will acquire the entire capital of West Burton Energy for an enterprise value of 450 million pounds sterling (528.64 million euros), the group said.
The plant has a total capacity of 1.3 gigawatts, he added.
TotalEnergies then plans to sell 50% of the acquired assets, saying it estimates its need for gas-based electricity production capacity at 700 megawatts.
“Thanks to this acquisition, TotalEnergies adds flexible assets to its renewable electricity production capacity in the United Kingdom, compensating for the intermittency of renewables and thus making it possible to provide electricity available 24 hours a day to its customers,” said the group. in a press release.
Located in England, in the county of Nottinghamshire, the West Burton B gas station was owned until 2021 by the French group EDF, which sold it to the EIG fund.
