The European elections are not limited to the various debates between French representatives, such as the one planned this evening between Prime Minister Gabriel Attal and the president of the RN Jordan Bardella. Another debate will pit the heads of the European lists against each other this Thursday, May 23 from 3 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., in the hemicycle of the European Parliament in Brussels.

Participating: the Austrian Walter Baier (European Left), the Italian Sandro Gozi who is a candidate in France (Renew Europe), the current German President of the Commission Ursula von der Leyen (European People’s Party), the German Terry Reintke (European Greens) and Luxembourger Nicolas Schmit (European Socialist Party).
These five candidates will debate the following themes: economy and employment; security and defense; climate and environment; democracy and leadership; borders and migration; innovation and technology.
Broadcast with the same technology as for the European song contest Eurovision, this debate opposes the leaders of each political group who present a candidate for the presidency of the Commission.
According to the European treaties, if it is the heads of state and government who appoint the new president of the European executive, they must take into account the votes of the balance of power in the European Parliament which will result from the June election. It is in fact the European Parliament which has the last word by validating in a vote the person chosen by the European Council.
