War in Ukraine: Azov regiment accuses him of having “killed more Ukrainian soldiers than any Russian general”, commander Yuri Sodol fired

Volodymyr Zelensky announced this Monday the dismissal of the commander of the joint forces of the Ukrainian army, General Yuri Sodol, the target of accusations of incompetence in the conduct of the war against Russia. The Ukrainian president provided no explanation for his decision in his daily address broadcast each evening.

Zelensky clarified that Iouri Sodolwho had just been promoted this year, was replaced by the général Andriy Hnatov in this position relating to strategic planning of operations.

The dismissal of Yuri Sodol comes after the broadcast of a message from head of the Azov regimenta unit enjoying great respect in Ukraine, in which the latter suggests that the initiatives of this general led to significant setbacks on the battlefield. In a publication on Telegram messaging, Bohdan Krotevychhead of the Azov regiment, does not identify Yuri Sodol by name but states that a certain general “killed more Ukrainian soldiers than any Russian general”. “What matters to me is that commanders of battalions or combat brigades are brought to justice for the loss of an observation post but that a general is not brought to justice for the loss of regions , dozens of cities and thousands of soldiers”écrit Bohdan Krotevych. “All military personnel now understand who I’m talking about because 99% of the military hates him for what he does.”

Kherson, Bakhmout…

Andriy Hnatov was from 2022 vice-commander of the Ukrainian forces on the Southern Front and played a leading role in the Ukrainian army’s recapture of most of the region of Kherson. In the spring of 2023, he commanded the defense of Bakhmout, a city in eastern Ukraine finally taken by Russian forces after several months of fierce battles. Bohdan Krotevych welcomed Volodymyr Zelensky’s decision on social networks and called Andriy Hnatov a“highly valued officer”.
