Who is Matthieu Stefani, the man who hosts Emmanuel Macron in his Génération Do It Yourself podcast?

The business leader receives the President of the Republic for a long interview this Monday at 6 p.m. A first for this entrepreneur who touches everything.

Matthieu Stefani repeats it again and again: “We are the average of the people we hang out with.” And this forty-year-old hangs out with beautiful people. On his podcast Génération Do It Yourself (or GDIY as connoisseurs call it among themselves) big bosses, founders of successful start-ups, high-level athletes and now… the President of the Republic follow one another. This Monday, June 24, less than a week before the first round of the legislative elections, Emmanuel Macron will answer the business leader’s questions for 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Several successful businesses

Overshirt over monochrome T-shirt, sneakers on his feet, this native of Cherbourg does not clash with the Epinal image of the boss of a successful young start-up. Neither does his CV. Matthieu Stefani was 26 years old when he launched Citizenside, his first business. “We can all become reporters”, proclaims the young company in capital letters on its website. The concept is simple: the platform compiles photos and videos captured by citizen reporters and sells them to press agencies or partner media. At first, the business flourished. The concept appeals to heavyweights in the French media landscape, such as 20Minutes, RTL, or The Parisian. Even Agence France Presse (AFP) is joining forces with the young platform.

But Matthieu Stefani does not stop there. In the early 2010s, he launched Cosa Vostra, an agency “tech and creative consulting” which supports the media in their digital transformation. Among his clients, this jack of all trades Release, Humanity or TF1 before landing contracts with Tag Heueur or the CNRS. The company now has more than 80 employees and achieves an annual turnover of around 7 million euros. In parallel with his consulting activities, the one who defines himself as “an entrepreneur at heart” multiplies the projects. New concept, entrepreneur round table, podcast, it is difficult to draw the contours of the small empire of the business leader.

A reference podcast for entrepreneurs

In this galaxy, the Génération Do It Yourself podcast serves as a showcase. In lengthy interviews that regularly exceed two hours, Matthieu Stefani dissects the journey of his guests. In a relaxed tone, he questions their decisions, their doubts and their business successes. In the 400th episode posted online on the listening platforms this Sunday, June 16, it is the presenter Arthur who confides in his rise in the PAF. And the formula pleases. Having become a reference in entrepreneurial circles, the podcast claims “more than 100,000 listeners and 500,000 listens on average each month”.

The arrival of Emmanuel Macron marks a new stage for the entrepreneur. “I gave everything to be up to the task, we swept away a lot of subjects”he writes on X to announce this episode “unexpected from Generation Do It Yourself”. “The President talks about his successes, his mistakes, his convictions and the hardest moments of his two mandates”skillfully distills the business leader while waiting for the episode to be posted online at 6 p.m. this Monday.

For Emmanuel Macron, this choice can be compared to a return to basics. During his first campaign, the young Minister of the Economy made entrepreneurs a model of success. While his group finds itself in a poor position in terms of voting intentions, the president undoubtedly hopes to remobilize this base historically won over to his cause.
