ACTIEV, the party of mayor Lieven Janssens, made history in the 2018 elections. The party won no fewer than 15 of the 19 seats. CD&V could not benefit from the fact that it was the only party to take up the challenge and was stuck with four seats.

Today, Lieven Janssens is no longer participating in the elections and it remains to be seen whether and how many voters will lose confidence in the local party as a result. Koester 2290 (the new name of CD&V) is joined by Vorselaar Anders to challenge ACTIEV.

Candidate mayor Kobe Vercauteren (ACTIEV) cast his vote just after 8 o’clock. “I’m looking forward to a beautiful day with a great election result. For us, this means in concrete terms that we can continue our absolute majority. As soon as the results are known, we will go to Den Engel to sit together with everyone and hopefully make it a festive evening.”

“After the abolition of compulsory attendance and with new party leaders, it is a bit more difficult to estimate,” says Simon Dens, party leader for Koester 2290. “We set the bar very high for ourselves. We want to break the absolute majority because we believe that it would be good for our village if several parties were involved in governing.”

This article will be supplemented with analyzes and responses as soon as possible on election day, October 13.
