Donald Trump said the military should be used against the “enemy within” in an interview broadcast Sunday that takes the Republican candidate’s inflammatory rhetoric up a notch. “I always say we have two enemies. We have the enemy from without and we have the enemy from within. And the enemy from within, in my opinion, is more dangerous than China, Russia, and all these countries,” the former US president said in an interview with Fox News.

“I think the biggest problem is the people on the inside. We have very bad people. We have crazy people, far-left psychos,” he added. “This should be very easily handled if necessary by the National Guard, or, if it is really necessary, by the military,” said the November 5 presidential candidate. The National Guard is a military defense corps attached to the various American states, but whose command is ensured by the Pentagon when the missions are federal.
Kamala Harris’ campaign team expressed its outrage. “I know people have become desensitized to Trump over the past decade, but this should be shocking,” spokesperson Ian Sams told X, adding that such statements were “scary.” Since the start of his campaign, Donald Trump has painted an apocalyptic picture of America, ravaged according to him by migrants, galloping inflation and devastating self-righteousness.
The Republican billionaire had already used this very dark rhetoric during his victorious 2016 campaign, then during his defeat in 2020, but his words took on an even more incendiary dimension. Without the slightest proof, Donald Trump repeats that his Democratic rival wants to “execute babies” after their birth, is “Marxist”, “communist”, “fascist” too, and suffers from “an intellectual deficit”.
