Olivier Bordon is therefore ahead of Jean-Charles Luperto in preferred votes, confirming the trend favorable to Ensemble.

In Sambreville, the issue in this election was whether Jean-Charles Luperto would retain his absolute majority. Mayor since 2006 and convicted in a morals case, he remained supported by the PS. Facing him, the Ensemble list, led by Olivier Bordon, former socialist alderman, brought together MR, DéFI and the Engagés, in the hope of offering new governance. However, Ecolo’s withdrawal from this coalition weakened the opposition.

The results of the legislature were at the heart of the debates. Luperto defended the road renovations and the rehabilitation of the Saint-Gobain site, while Ecolo and the Engagés criticized the quality of life and the proliferation of waste treatment companies. The PTB, for the first time, presented three candidates, hoping to disrupt socialist hegemony.

The vote was to determine whether these opponents would be enough to shake Luperto’s majority or whether he would maintain his domination.
