A spectator present in the stands in Madrid allegedly mimed monkey gestures intended for a French streamer. The match was immediately interrupted before resuming once the culprit left the stadium.
New case of racism in football in Spain. This Saturday, the rematch of the streamers’ match between Spain and France – organized as part of Eleven All Stars – took place on the lawn of the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, the Atlético Madrid stadium. While we were playing the 57th minute – the Spaniards were leading 1-0 – the match was interrupted after a spectator mimed monkey gestures towards Broky Brawks, a French streamer, who complained to the central referee. Immediately, those involved in the event united to demand that the game be interrupted.
The culprit quickly left the stadium
While the French team, led by the streamer and evening captain Amine (“AmineMaTue”), headed towards the locker room after several rants passed in front of the corner where the culprit was, the latter was taken out of the stadium by security. For many minutes afterwards, discussions took place between the two staff, the organizers and security to decide between a resumption of the match or its outright cancellation. Very marked and disgusted by the incident, Koko DC, member of the Spanish team, burst into tears in front of the public.
It’s crazy to call me a monkey! No to racism!
The streamer Brawks, on his X account
“I apologize, I brought it here. If there are any insults towards you, I’m sorry. There are also supporters who have had racist insults”reacted Amine, addressing the 1,500 French supporters present at Riyadh Air Metropolitano. Before adding to the microphone: “Brawks received monkey mimes, supporters received peanuts and racist insults!”
“It touches me a lot. I fight all forms of injustice, it has no place in sport. We will continue the match and we will fight against racism. said the victim of the insults, Brawks. “It’s crazy to call me a monkey! No to racism!” added the Frenchman on his X account, applauded at the end of his speech by Spanish supporters who were not complicit with the troublemaker.
Finally, to the boos of some of the spectators, the speaker of the match announced the resumption of the match, warning that it would be definitively stopped in the event of a new incident. At the end of the 90 minutes – generally tense between the players from both camps, the Marseillaise having been whistled before kick-off – France lost 2-0.
