The explosion at a gas station in Grozny, the capital of the Russian republic of Chechnya, in the Caucasus, killed four people on Saturday, including two children, emergency services said.

In a press release published on Telegram, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations provided this report, specifying that the fire had been brought under control.

Videos of the incident, published by Russian media and not verified by AFP, show a large fireball triggered by the explosion.

Accidents of this type are common in Russia, often due to violations of safety standards or dilapidated facilities.

At the end of September, the explosion at a gas station in Dagestan, a Russian republic neighboring that of Chechnya, left 13 dead and around ten injured. In August 2023, still in Dagestan, 37 people were killed and 119 others injured by a similar accident in the suburbs of Makhachkala, the regional capital.
