Coupe de France: “I think it’s going to be festive,” admits David Le Goff before Plaintel-Concarneau

Coupe de (5th round). Plaintel Sport (R2) – US Concarneau (National), Saturday (3:30 p.m.)

What does this confrontation between Plaintel and Concarneau inspire you?

When I saw the draw, it made me smile because even if it’s a bit old, I trained both clubs. At Plaintel, I was the head coach while at Concarneau I was the assistant to Nico (Cloarec) who is one of the architects of what the club has become today.

Plaintel has achieved a feat, it is the magic of the cup. You have to be wary of the smallest. We also, with the Mountain, had big difficulties in the 3rd round against a D1 team, in Allaire, where we were down by two goals at half-time.

No, but I was this week with Pascal Laguillier (the assistant coach at Concarneau) at Clairefontaine. We obviously talked a little about Plaintel but I didn’t have much to give him.

Does the Plaintel stadium look like an ambush for Concarneau?

I think it will especially be a party at Plaintel. Leaders and volunteers will do things well to receive an N1. This kind of match is always an event and there will certainly be a lot of people there. I think it’s going to be festive, it’s the trend, rather than a trap. The gap is still significant. Against an R2, Concarneau must take the match from the right end and succeed in imposing its game. The conditions should be good. A year and a half after my departure, the club benefited from a complex of three new fields. With Stade Briochin, we were going to train on this site where we had also played a friendly match against Concarneau. And even if it’s been a few years since USC hasn’t gone too far in the cup (because of Saint-Brieuc and de la Montagne…), it remains in the genes of the Thoniers. They still have players who know what a sectional course is like.
